OpenCV AI Competition 2022!

An international open source competition on computer vision by OpenCV Foundation.

Welcome to the OpenCV Competition 2022! The previous three competitions have been amazing. This competition is somewhat different with minimal restrictions. Participants will have as long as 4 months to solve real world problems they are interested in using OpenCV. No restrictions on the types of problems, the hardware to use, and the programming language used. The only requirement is to use OpenCV to complete your projects.

We can’t wait to see your unique project.

Suggested Areas

The competition offers new opportunities and challenge categories in addition to long-standing challenge areas. We hope your projects can make the world better by using computer vision technologies. The areas can be the following, but not limited to the following ones.
    • Robotics
    • Agriculture
    • Education
    • Visually impaired assistance
    • Health and medical
    • Miscellaneous

Prizes

OpenCV Foundation will organise a committee of experts in computer vision from academy and industry to evaluate all submissions. Teams will be chosen from all contestants for the Grand Prize based on the quality of submitted projects. The winners will receive:
  • Outstanding Winner, First Place (1 team): $5,000 + Certificate
  • Outstanding Winner, Second Place (1 team): $3,000 + Certificate
  • Outstanding Winner, Third Place (1 team): $2,000 + Certificate
  • First Prize Winner (top 10% teams): Certificate
  • Second Prize Winner (top 30% teams): Certificate
  • Third Prize Winner (top 50% teams): Certificate
  • Successful Participant (Teams with a completed project): Certificate
In addition, another two awards will be given by OpenCV development partners Orbbec, a 3D vision technology provider  and Khadas, an SBC manufacturer respectively, which are the Orbbec Awards and the Khadas Awards.
The teams will be chosen from all contestants whose projects use Orbbec 3D cameras for the Orbbec Awards. The teams will receive:
  •  Outstanding Orbbec Winner, First Place (1 team): $740 + Certificate
  • Outstanding Orbbec Winner, Second Place (1 team): $440 + Certificate
  •  Outstanding Orbbec Winner, Third Place (3 teams): $290 + Certificate
  • Successful Orbbec Participant (Teams with a completed project): Certificate
The teams will be chosen from all contestants whose projects use Khadas VIM3, a 4K NVMe SBC with NPU for the Khadas Awards. The teams will receive:
  •  Outstanding Khadas Winner, First Place (1 team): $1480 + Certificate
  • Outstanding Khadas Winner, Second Place (1 team): $740 + Certificate
  • Outstanding Khadas Winner, Third Place (5 teams): Khadas VIM4 SBC + Certificate
  • Successful Khadas Participant (Teams with a completed project): Certificate
The above awards are nonexclusive. That is to say, if a team uses both Orbbec 3D cameras and Khadas VIM3 in its project, it is possible to get all three first place and the monetary prize sums up to $7220.

The winning teams will be invited to give a talk at OpenCV Webinar.

Competition Rules

  • Competition is open to anyone interested in computer vision. There’s no restrictions on what kind of problems you are to solve, what devices or hardware to use and the programming language used. The only requirement is that OpenCV must be used to complete the project.
  • The participants can choose English or Chinese for their reports and others.
  • Teams can be made up of one member, or multiple members but as many as four are allowed.
  • There’s no restrictions on what hardware to use. If the project uses 3D cameras or development boards which participants don’t have on hand, participants can apply for coupon codes of Orbbec 3D cameras at a discount of up to 17% off and Khadas VIM3 25% off. One team can buy with the coupon codes as many as the number of the team members.
  • Any submitted projects must be original, and should be open sourced on Github, Gitee and the like before the final submission.
  • By participating in this competition, the contestants grant OpenCV.org the right to use, in whole or in part, with or without modifications, computer code, images, videos, and other assets generated and/or submitted by the contestants as part of this competition.
  • The contestant (winner) will bear any applicable bank transfer fees and/or Government taxes.
  • The final submission will consist of (1) tech report and working code: 80% of the credit, and (2) video: The remaining 20% of the credit will be for a video (~5 mins) explaining the algorithm and showing a demo.

Submission Guidelines : Do's And Don’t

The organisers of the competition believe AI is like electricity with the potential to disrupt and transform many areas of our lives. It will have a positive impact on a wide variety of industries like autonomous driving, healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, assistive technologies, entertainment, safety and security to name a few. We encourage submissions in all these areas. However, AI can also be used in ways that are unethical and/or discriminatory. Submissions in unethical and/or discriminatory ways will not be considered in the selection of awards.
