As many of you know, MathWorks, the company behind the popular MATLAB® and Simulink® software, relies on OpenCV to enhance their products and provide powerful tools for collaborative development, simulation, testing, and implementation of image processing and computer vision-based systems. The OpenCV library and community has been instrumental in fostering innovation and progress in these fields.
However, there’s one issue that we need your help to address. While MathWorks actively uses OpenCV to benefit their products and customers, they haven’t yet become a member organization or provided financial support to the OpenCV project. Perhaps they are simply not aware of OpenCV’s membership program, or the financial hardships we are under.
The sustainability of open-source initiatives like OpenCV depends on the collective support and collaboration of individuals, companies, and organizations. Without sufficient financial support, projects like OpenCV face insurmountable odds. And here’s where you come in!
We urge you to join us in encouraging MathWorks to become a member organization of OpenCV. By doing so, they can help secure the future of OpenCV and ensure that this essential library remains free and accessible to all. It’s an investment in the global community of developers, researchers, and innovators who rely on OpenCV for their work.
Without the backing of organizations like MathWorks, OpenCV may be forced to implement a commercial license to sustain itself. This would have far-reaching consequences, potentially limiting access to its resources and creating barriers for those who depend on it.
Your voice matters, and your support can make a significant impact. If you’re a MathWorks customer, reach out to them and express your desire for them to support OpenCV financially. Share this message with your network and encourage others to do the same.
We believe that when the community comes together, we can preserve the accessibility and openness of projects like OpenCV. Let’s rally for the cause and ensure that future generations of developers have access to the invaluable tools that OpenCV provides.
Thank you for your continued support. This campaign is a collective effort to safeguard the future of open-source computer vision and image processing.
